I'm building cabinets and I want to join 2 - 3/4" panels at a 45° angle. I have cut the panels at 22 1/2° and they line up nicely.  I'm concerned that the screws will penetrate the far side.

Would a 1" screw be adequate?

When I set-up to drill, what thickness should I set the jig for?

Thanks,

Max

I've added 2 photos of the subject joint.

I can use biscuits but I had hoped to do this project using Kreg pocket holes as much as possible.

Thanks again,

Max

Nope. Won't work for me. Did you see the pictures I attached to my original message?

wouldn't this video show what you're trying to do? assuming the joint isn't seen from the outside

Not really. That would work with *solid* wood but I'm using plywood. If you'll notice in the video, there's an overlap at the joint.
The overlap can be cut off and the joint sanded smooth and it should look just fine *with solid wood*. But with plywood the plies would show.
But thanks for the reference.

Best I can see playing around with the joint in sketchup is:

The hole should be drilled using the drill block at the 1/2" setting as it lets the screw leave the wood at a good thickness.

There isn't much thread left though with a 1" screw.
Instead use a 1 1/4" screw, this barely pokes through.
So if you set your drill bit back 1/8" or so from the 1/2" mark, you should have enough meat to get some grab on the wood. (worth a shot on some test wood)

Haha, I think Tim just proved a point about how useful SketchUp is for more than just planning the project! Great stuff.
Of course, you could figure out this by trial and error on scrap wood too, but this way should get you there a bit quicker and less messy!

though it looks like a slightly better solution would be:

The half inch hole slid off the edge of the board by 1/8"
The normal 1/2" drill bit setting
Use a 1" screw

this will put the screw into an even thicker portion of the wood
Excellent. I've completed the cabinet that was a challenge but I'm keeping this latest information for future use.
Many thanks.

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
