Hi All

I am making a dresser and am now on the drawer stage, I orderd 1/2 birch not thinking to ask for real 1/2 baltic birch. So the question is this I now have a ton of drawer box pieces cut in undersized 1/2 birch plywood. Anyone figured out the best way to compensate?

screw length

coarse or fine

bit setting

jig setting

I have the regular jig and the micro.

Thanks

Shawn

Shawn, I believe 3/4 or 1" micro screws, coarse thread, adjust drill stop collar to correct setting using the scale on the jig. Micro plugs also. Good luck. Hope someone else chimes in.
Thanks for the reply MIchael, after a bunch of test holes and screw type testing I have a workable solution.

The micro jig manual suggests the following settings to get a pluggable hole in 1/2 inch material which just so happens works well with undersized plywood.

Drill Bit Collar - 5/8
Jig - 1/2
Screw - 3/4 pan head fine

The only part I don't like about this is that I can not find 3/4 pan head screws that come in course only fine.

Anyways this is the method I will use for my undersized plywood drawer boxes. Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks
Shawn

I use "fine" thread screws into baltic birch PW.

Baltic birch is a "hardwood".

Shawn - One reason you cannot find 3/4" coarse thread screws is that they are not offered anywhere. By the time enough bare shank is left to pull the stock together, there is only enough shank left for a turn or two at the coarse pitch.
