Hi,

I am trying to plan a cabinet out of 1/2 inch plywood (or ??). I am doing this for my garage. Are kreg joints recommended and what size screws should I use?

Thanks in advance.

What will the cabinet consist of....shelves, drawers or both?

You could make a cabinet out of 1/2" plywood and use the jig for the joinery, but if you involve any of the mentioned storage solutions then you may need to use more holes for strength.

If you can afford it then maybe try 3/4" plywood and drill less holes than you would for the 1/2" plywood.

Thanks for the response James. The cabinet is going to have only shelves. No drawers. I want to stick it to my garage wall above my car space. That is the reason why I plan on using 1/2" plywood as it would be lighter that 3/4inch plywood as I am not sure if my wall stud will hold up the cabinet. I am thinking of a big cabinet 48 H x 24 W x18 D or 48 x 48 x 18. I am an as inexperienced in woodworking as a woodworker might be in rocket science. Hence am not sure what cabinet sizes are good for which kind of plywood. But if I use 1/2 inch ply will it work with the pocket hole joints and what size screws should I use?

Thanks again.

Also, how many holes would you recommend? Every 4 inches or less?

You should have a look at this video about making a wall cabinet.

Wall Cabinet

Hi James,

Thanks for the response. I did take a look at that video and it is very informative. Although I have a question on the picture that you posted. It says that frame joinery of 1/2 to 1/2 is not recommended. What is frame joinery? Is that the joinery to create the face frame? or is that the right angle joint shown in the diagram?

Thanks
