Kreg Owners' Community

Hey guys,
I am on a budget and just want to get some feedback on a saw.  Should my 1st saw purchase be a band saw or table saw?  My wife got me the kreg jig for Christmas and wants a toy box for the kids.  I am also a novice woodworker so if you all could help me out.

Okay I am going to totally agree with everyone else. A Table Saw Hands down. I have two of them. :) A portable Ryobi and a great old Craftsman.
A good table saw, one that has wheels, if you're cramped for space. I've tried to get everything I have so I can move for storage when I have to put my wife's car back in the garage.
A question: any advice on a band saw and a drill press?
I would recommend the table saw.
Definitely a table saw. A tablesaw IMO is the most important tool (second to the kreg jig ;-D ) to have in a workshop. A bandsaw is really rescricted to the size of your cuts. you can't make a cut bigger than 10" (depending on your bandsaw).
I recommend you buy a decent tablesaw though. I bought a cheap one ($100) and regretted it. you can get a decent one at lowes or home depot for around $500.

get a table saw!!! you can't do the same type of work with a band saw
table saw would be first. you have a narrow distance, on a bandsaw, between the band and the throat where as the table saw has fewer limits by removing the rip fence.
Definitely start off with a good table saw. After many years of woodworking I have just purchased a 14" band saw, Have never really needed one because I could always get by with a jig saw. Now I'm doing band saw boxes and they require a band saw. Good Luck, be sure to get a good table saw!!
On this question id have to go with the drill press..the drill press can be utilized in countless tasks that you cannot do any way else..the bandsaw still is more of a luxury tool where the drill press is a workhorse in my book..

How are you going to cut wood with a drill press??
well it all depends on what your making smaller projects a bandsaw is good
a drill press can just make differant size holes
if you cabinets or larger projects a table excels
all of them has things they do well and some things they do OK on

John what are you going to make with this new tool ?

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
