Is there a trick to using these clamps,  I've used them before with mixed results, last night i could not lock both of the automaxx, the long necked and the pocket hole.

Does it need lubricant, I'm weary of putting lubricant in them for fear that it would leak on the material.

Yes there is most definitely a trick to using these clamps. Undo the clamping pressure , in other words go into the negative.
They are so tight when they are made you have to "Break them In" adding lubricant will just make a mess. I used automotive brake cleaner to clean mine . There was milling residue that came out of mine.

Start to adjust the clamping pressure a little at a time until you start to feel it clamp. The more you use them the better the clamp will get.

Also the clamp pad needs to be flat on the material being clamped or the automaxx will engage to soon at that point. You may have to clamp and unclamp a couple of times to get the the clamp to adjust its self to where it need to be to clamp.
Once I figured out how to work them thay are a handy clamp to use. I now have 5 track clamps, 4 corner clamps, and 4 face frame clamps.

Thank you for the information, which is very useful to me.
