Kreg Owners' Community

SPAM — vb  , spams spamming spammed
1.

unsolicited electronic mail or messages simultaneously sent to a number of e-mail addresses or mobile phones or social media accounts.

_________

As many of you know, we've been experiencing some problems with SPAM (i.e. digital junk-mail) in the community.  Some of you have been receiving unsolicited messages on your profile page and subsequently your email inbox.  I'd like to address a few issues regarding this problem:

  • First of all, we work very hard to prevent SPAM in this community and will continue to do so.  However, we are unable to stop 100% of the events.  We apologize for any inconvenience.  Receiving these type of messages can be frustrating, time consuming, and a bit disheartening.
  • Do not be alarmed if you receive SPAM.  You were simply one of the unlucky few who was randomly selected by the SPAMMER to send a message to.
  • The SPAMMERS do not have access to your personal information such as email address, etc.  The reason you may be receiving emails is simply because the community is automatically notifying you of a message you received from within the community.
  • A bit of background information regarding our efforts to thwart SPAM: when anyone signs up to become a member of the Kreg Jig Owners' Community they have to answer a simple question.  By answering this question correctly, the community software knows you're a real person.  This prevents automatic-type SPAM computers from making profiles automatically and using them to SPAM community members.  Unfortunately, if the SPAMMERS are really persistent and are committed to getting in they can still do so by hiring real people to fill out the form to create a real-person profile.  Up until recently SPAM had been virtually eliminated in the Kreg Jig Owners' Community.  We will continue to work to keep the community as free from SPAM as possible, but we need your help.
  • As our community continues to grow (now over 26,000 members and thriving) we will continue to be a bigger target to SPAMMERS.  This means that members will need to take a more active role in pointing out problems when they surface.
  • If you see any questionable posts/messages (someone inviting you to send them money or to buy something or to visit their website for a 'good time,' etc.) please report it to KregRep by sending a personal message.  To send a personal message, simply visit KregRep's Page, and then click 'send a message'.  Be sure to include the name of the spammer, or perferably, a direct link to the spammer's personal page as there are sometimes multiple users with the same name.
  • After being notified by community members of a suspected SPAMMER, KregRep will delete the user's account so further mailings are halted.

Thank you for your patience with this issue.  We're confident measures we're taking will reduce the likelihood of frustrating SPAM in the future.

From all these posts it has become obvious to me that Nancy is a lying, cheating, slut and not to be trusted! I'm beginning to think all she wants is my money! I have written her to advise that the wedding is OFF !! I have also begun to suspect that she may not even own a Kreg pocket hole jig or even be interested in DIY ... I hope you fellows have better luck with Nancy than I did... Sure hope this ugly rash goes away soon... ;-)

Thank you for the information.  I received two messages and knew they were spam.  Also, thank you for the many instructions, tips, and plans.  I intend to make good use of my Kreg jig.

I was getting spam from Rita, Nancy, Linda, & Jody before I even joined the Kreg community, so I know that this isn't the only forum being hit.  the same discussion is coming up all over the web.  my daughter is even getting spam from her knitting forum.

And there's the truth!  Same here

A BIG thank you to all community members who have been sending us information on SPAM they've received.  Your assistance is invaluable as we work through this problem.  Over the past 2-3 days we've deleted some 300 SPAM accounts, we've increased the 'real-person' identification difficulty for new accounts, and we're beginning to see a fall in the number of reported SPAM.  The problem is NOT solved yet and likely never will be 100%, but we've made tremendous progress thanks to you.  We will continue to work hard to make sure the community is as free of SPAM as possible.

Thank you again,

KregRep

In another effort to reduce SPAM we will be temorarily turning on a feature which broadcasts messages left in users' profile pages in the Activity Feed on the main page.  This means that any time you (or a SPAMMER) leaves a message on another user's profile... that action will also be presented on the main page activity feed for all to see.  Once the problem has lessened and the SPAM is more under control this feature will be returned to normal and profile page messages like this will no longer be broadcast in such a public fashion.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this problem.
