Kreg Owners' Community

Hi I'm new to this form and have a question about using the Kreg system and the type of screw to use.

The material is 1.2"

Hard Maple, Butch Block Counter Top.

The chart tells me to use a 2.5" screw

and a fine thread for the Maple

I am not able to fine that type of Kreg Screw.... So will a course thread work?

Thanks for your help....

Course will work in hardwood but fine will hold better. The reverse isn't as good, i.e. fine screws in man-made wood. You can get the different types of Kreg screws at Amazon and other online sellers.

Jim,

I would not recommend using coarse threaded screws in hard wood material as this greatly increases your chances of splitting.  For this application I would set both the jig and the depth collar to the 1 1/8" setting and use a 1 1/2" fine thread screw.  This will give you almost an inch of screw into your receiving piece.  If you have any additional questions please let us know.
