so im doing a birthday project for my dad and i need to join two pieces of 1 3/8 birch together on a 45 mitered corner and i was wondering what size screws to use. i know the chart i found on here says to use 2 inch screws but they only make them in coarse thread and from what ive read i need to use fine thread in birch. any ideas?

I think there is a fine 1" screw. I have used course screws for my entertainment center and it is holding real well. I d use glue on all projects also.
will a 1" screw hold well enough? i was under the impression i should use a 2" screw on 1" 3/8 stock.

The longest fine thread screw I know of is 1 1/2" available on Amazon.com, Rockler.com, etc. what you can do is set the Jig and collar to 1" and attach with the 1 1/2" screws at that setting. I know that that is not the optimum setting, but is the best I have come up with when joining 2 thick pieces of hardwood.
