Hi Robert.
I thought it looked like a lot of screws, but it is bigger than it seems in the picture. It is 42 inches across the bottom and I put them every 6 inches. It was my first project with Kreg, so figured I would follow that suggestion. I have learned since then that it really doesn't have to be that many.
The good thing is that this one will definitely hold up to my daughter beating it up forever! She still hasn't put anything in the chest, but randomly I will find her sleeping in it. Holds up well and fits an 8 year old girl with no problems :)
Ronda,
Hello again, I dont think the screws are excessive and if they are even so its a very mininal cost per item for them as opposed to having to repair a broken base.
Here is a stave drum I made
Thanks Brett!
Hi Robert,
I used a K4 master system. The lumber is all 1x6 and 1x4 except the base support that was done with a 1x2 & 2x2 to beef it up a bit. Kind of figured that the kids would be in it as soon as the stain dried, and so far they have only been in there one at a time!
I know that the screws around the bottom are a bit excessive, but the video that came with my system said screws should be every 6 inches. I think next time I'm just going to wing it with what seems right (like maybe 4 screws for the whole length and not a million) :)
Nicely done!
Hello Ronda
Great workmanship on the Project.
I am impressed with the tolerances style and overall finish considering its yur first effort.
That being the case you have set the bar high for future works.
What Kreg Jig did you use?...I am assuming its a Micro Jig due to the dimensions of the timber.
Very neat construction and there is little or no chance of the base coming off.
Excellent work!

Hi All.....I have the 35mm Kreg Jig hinge drill guide. The guide is great for 35mm Hinge Cups, but I have a speciality 40MM hinge cup to drill.Has anyone adapted the Kreg guide to work with 40mm Forsner drill bits? Or have a guide that works…Continue

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…

Several months ago, I purchased the Kreg K4MS so that I could build the Lego Table as outlined on the companion "buildsomething" web site which exclusively uses pocket hole construction. I have considerable experience with conventional…
