Mike,

Install an indoor fireplace,

perhaps the birds will hang around during the winter months.

Sounds alot like something we used back when I was in the Air Force, a sealant for rockets. It was like a blob if you got one spot on you it was like it grew all by itself. LOL

Pat one other thing if you are going to try it where latex gloves, because that sealant doesn't come off your hands.

Thanks Mike, the crack and masonry sealant is the missing component for me. Will get some soon and try it out.

Hi Pat, the chimney's I make are a piece of wood cut to what ever design you want, then I cover it with PL polyurethane concrete crack & masonry sealant, then I apply the pebble stones of all different sizes, shapes and colors. It is a little time consuming but worth it. When you are selling them people really like that look.
Thanks Mike

thanks, I usually go for 1.25"... as you say, the larger birds will hang around if holes are too large

Pending on what birds I usually use holes from 1 3/4 to 2 1/2 inches this was made for smaller birds.
