We grill out a lot from our walk-out basement and carrying food, dishes, etc from upstairs becomes a pain in a hurry. Our basement was wired and plumbed for a washer/dryer hookup so it was an easy matter to come through the utility room wall into a finished area to add a small kitchen unit. It is about ten feet to the back door and our patio and Big Green Eggs !
I built the cabinet in place using Kreg Joinery. The carcass is 3/4 birch plywood and the face frame is clear pine. Draweres and pullouts are 1/2 baltic birch, drawer fronts are clear pine, door inserts are beaded wainscoting.
The top is 3/4 white ash over 3/4 birch plywd giving me an1 1/2 in butcher block/cutting board surface. I have treated it with several coats of food grade mineral oil.
The range will go on the left of the cabinet and the refridgerator to the right.
I am going to build open shelves to go on the walls above the counter, no upper cabinets planned for now but they can always be added if needed.
