There is still an issue when uploading portrait photos taken on an iPhone.  Once uploaded it then stretches them to try to display as landscape.

This is an issue that is almost a year old now.

Any update on when this will be resolved?

The previous ticket remains open, because apparantly the issue has not yet been resolved. We just submitted a new ticket detailing this issue and will let you know what we hear back. Thank you for your patience.

Pretty simple you are uploading and viewing photos that are foreign to Windows  systems.  I-phones are Apple and have a digital image that is totally foreign to what Windows knows and understands so it get treated using Windows based systems and the results are what you are getting.  If you were viewing them an apple computer they would be correct.  That is why they are often upside down and or sideways when they are down loaded onto a Windows Computer.  Most can be rotated and even edited using additional software such as paint but they will never be the same quality as those taken on a camera that is not a Apple based product.  It is the same idea as trying to use ford auto parts on a Chev product.  Maybe Ning does not want to go to the problem of having to try and correct another camera's difference since most photos are taken by camera that Windows recognizes the digital image information.

Nope, Jay.  I'm using Windows, Android on my phone, and my Sony camera is neither.  It happens (IMO) due to the camera rotation information within the photo's EXIF information not being interpreted by the Ning interface.  If I strip the orientation information from the JPEG and set the image so it displays correctly on my computer, the image will display correctly.

Jay these days there are freely available plugins a developer can use to easily do this. It just seems they don't have ning guys don't have the technical knowledge as have seem the same on other sites that use them.  If you upload an iPhone image to facebook or pinterest on a Windows machine that works fine. It is just lack of knowledge and ability of the ning guys.

Exactly you have to alter the image information that the Apple systems give you in order to get windows to interpret the image. What I said was that the information was foreign to windows systems and that is why you get the image that appears.  I also stated that Ning did not alter the image for you so it must be done before down loading your image.    Some sources such as face book will do this however Ning does not. I also have apple phone images of which I have to convert to get windows to show them correctly.  Usually they are upside down and you must flip them and remove the apple language from the image or it will at times return back to the apple language. I do not post any photo from a based Apple camera and still have to convert the image to use it in Windows such as windows storage of which I will share with different people. Since most are using Windows maybe Windows should be the one whom convert the Apple language.

Andy I don't think Ning is short of knowledge as most know the difference between Apple or Macintosh have two separate languages.  I believe Ning is not wanting to go to the expense of converting the apple language to display on Windows.  Maybe Ning is short on software as I recall the issues that have been with the spam and particular with the issue back a couple years with the porn that was added.  They didn't filter that out either and nor did it filter out and prevent some of the members whom responded to the porn in a positive way and thus increased the amount that was coming in to this site.  I know as I spent several hours of my own time to track and locate the sources and provided the information to the Kreg Rep so he could take measures to get Ning to block the source.      I know that if I want to post a photo onto this site then I do the conversion of the image language before I post it if it is something that I have taken using an Apple device.  To do this you must strip the language from the image information just as Tim states above.  If the image is still of a poor quality then I will use photo editing software such as Windows Paint or some of my other photo editing software that I have.  It is like I stated in my original post it is foreign to Windows.  You are posting this to Windows and how can Ning alter your photo as it is an instant image that you posted to Windows unless they are set up to catch and convert an different language.

The latest from Ning:

They closed the ticket we created last week, merging the info with an existing ticket (which remains open). We will let you know when we hear back with any updates. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience with this issue.

I guess they will treat the Apple language as even Windows does sometimes.  Last month I uploaded an Apple Video to Windows to be used in a criminal case and it treated it  without any changing of the Apple Language.  The video was upside down and also not as clear as it was after I converted it.    I had to strip out the image information and then flip the video and change the format to MP4.   Then Windows played the video without any problem.   I know that you can turn the Apple phone upside down it will show a Windows Image correctly.  It is all in the information that the camera puts into the image that determines how it is displayed.   Not every site will detect a language that is foreign to Windows and converts it to Windows language.  Most of the social networks will do that for you.   It is simple to change the information yourself before posting the information.

I would think that if they began changing images then maybe they think that the image that you posted is what you want to be displayed.  Then it would be left up the one doing the photography to change the image the way they want it displayed.  Example:  color or black and white, tone, shadows contrast, focus as well as format.  That would be my thinking anyway.
