Kreg Owners' Community

Hi all deck builders:

I have built a number of decks by face nailing and I am currently planning to purchase the Kreg jig to hide the screws on a mahogany deck. I own a  number of Kreg jigs for other uses, but this would be a first with a deck. So far, a search of this site shows completed decks looking just fine. However, I was hoping to find a close-up or two of the deck at the point of the inserted screws. Elsewhere on the internet I read a complaint that, although the screw cannot be seen, the screw pocket can be.

Can anybody photo their deck job up close so I can make a decision? I would like to use Kreg if I can.

I'll be using the Kreg deck jig in the next few weeks to produce a couple of softwood decks for a customer. I can take close-ups if it would help you. k33F

Hi Frank. I've attached a few photos from our site that show the deck jig in use. You can see the pockets in these photos. When viewed from this angle, yes, the pockets are somewhat visible. When viewed standing on the deck, though, they're not very visible. They fall below the edge, more on the side of the board. Usually I find that the pockets largely disappear from the view overhead.

Yes, there is a fastener, unlike some systems that attach the decking from underneath. Those systems, of course, require attaching the decking from below, though. Also, compared to other systems that use a fastener from the edge, the fact that you predrill with ours makes each pocket consistent and clean, unlike others which can cause tearout or "mushrooming" around the fastener.

I hope these images help you with your decision.

thanks, keith. I might have sent this already, but since I am new to this site, I might also have hit the wrong button. But yes, I could use the pictures because I will be starting in June.
