K5 Kreg Jig

I'm a long time Kreg Jig owner and have always upgraded when new models come to market I attended a seminar with the Kreg Rep for Canada recently and seen the K5 it was not long afterward that I purchased the K5 I'm very impressed with the features and performance of this new product it has all the features that I or anyone would want. I really do not know how Kreg will ever improve on this model. I highly recommend to anyone who is buying or thinking of upgrading to buy the K5.

i also have a k5 cabinet makers kit i spent winter collecting infermation and ideas .aheck of a buy on amazon. no heat in my shop so i know will be busy till nov. maybe florida this winter.love this kreg and i will spend many happy hours making crafts for them.1 st item done for #1granddaughter and great grand d. 6 more g kids to go.

Thank You for asking what I think of the bundle and clarifying your first post.

The original post was and dealt with the advanced features of the K5 technical pro's to all other non commercial Kreg pocket hole systems.

Although Gary Roofner and me explored the fiscal issues early on in the discussion and found that although the K5 was less money you would need to buy clamps and other pieces for to have the same as the K4 master kit so It would cost about 40 dollars more which I still believe is a good deal for the advance features of the K5.

I think the deal that you found is a great value as you get everything 2 different clamps Micro, HD, toolbox, screw chart, DVD's etc.

Hi Jeff,

My point was that the K4 Master Bundle still represented a good value to someone like me who is just starting out.  But then I found this K5 bundle on Amazon which is causing me to rethink.  Looks like a good buy.

Good Evening Charlie Keith;

I'm not sure the point you are making as those projects can be made with the K4 Master System and the K5, the purpose of the tool review is to let members know if they are thinking of upgrading of the advantages of the K5 and I'm not the only reviewer of this product that has said it is Kreg's most advanced stand alone pocket hole jig to date.

I own the K4 Master but when I seen my Kreg Rep Mark Eaton Demo at one of his courses that I took, the K5 jig, I was sold and no time I bought the K5 but including the Micro and HD I own 7 Kreg pocket hole jigs.

If you buy or use anyone of Kreg jigs you own the best and should be happy with it.

I am a recently retired guy interested in woodworking.  I brought the K4 Master System at Lowes last week for $139 dollars.  Although it is not opened yet I was thrilled with all the projects I could tackle based on project plans on the web.   My current thinking is the K4 gives me Kreg joints with much needed extras at a good price.  Remember I am just getting stated so I see this community of users as invaluable.  Keep it coming - holes and all....

Nice to have your input, we are talking all Kreg products so all the same durabiilitey just a model differences or a Ford man wich I am or a Mercury . I can tell you this that none of the big box in my area carry the K5 in fact out of 3 of the local specialize woodworking tool suppliers only 1 carried the K5. In fact when I telephoned one asking if they had the K5 in stock and for what price they did not know there was such a model. I like and wanted the front handle for when I build large long panels for bookcases I do not have to try to reach over the side to release the clamp to move the panel for my next hole, the reason I did not buy the K3 was I heard the spring did not allways hold the work clamped strong enough and you still had to adjust the threaded part for different thicknesses of wood. I confess I'm a tool junky and also a Kreg junky all of my other Kreg jigs are in perfect condition and have been used and easily paid for themselves ten times over and I really had no reason to upgrade but love the features of the new K5 as my original review says. I also think Kreg will not be able to come up with new features that will blow me away easily do not get me wrong I hope they do. I just wanted people to know if they where thinking of upgrading are needed to upgrade for any of many reasons to think about the K 5.

Just check the prices on the Kreg web site the K4 Master System is 149.00 dollars the K5 is 139.00 dollars. The K4 Master has two extra items the first is the small face clamp vise grips the second is the portable mounting block. The local Home Depot only carries the K4 standard 99.00 dollars 4 less items than the K4 Master 159.00, I guess once you buy the vise grips and portable mounting block you would be at more money . Still out 6 Kreg pocket hole jigs I own the K 5 is my favorite and the best.

I would suspect that the most logical reason that people are still buying a k-4 over the k5 is the same reason that not every one has the same likes in the tool.  Just like not everyone buys a Ford or a Toyota. It is not only the matter of price but there is a preference and appeal in the difference of the two models.  Some may not like the same features and or need the same features.  I for one do not need all the features found on the k-5 and if I was in need of buying a new Kreg Jig I would go for the k-4.  The reasons are simple for me as it is well built and has all the features I need in my shop.  I find no need for a vacuum attachment as drilling pocket holes does not produce that much wood shaving to warrant the need of a vacuum.  In the 25 plus years I have used the k-2 as my main jig in my cabinet shop. It has drilled thousands of holes in all types of hardwoods and soft woods as well as ply wood and is still boring holes today.   The only reason I added the k-4 was to have the ability to use it  on 1 1/2 inch stock and also to have one to take to the field with me on cabinet installs. 

The thing about the kreg jig models is that they are hard to wear out and have all the features a person really needs to have to do a job quickly and do it accurately.  It is the features of some like the k-3 that does not appeal to me.  I do not care for the front handle and for that reason alone I choose not to buy it.  I also do not think I would be gaining anything by buying another jig when the ones I have work just fine.

My Lowes was selling for $99. I don't know where you could buy a k5 for that low a price.
