Good Morning Andy, Thank you for getting back to me.   Although I build high end custom woodwork including furniture and have for many years, I am interested is seeing how you build your furniture.    I have taken a look at the plan links you have attached to some of them and was wondering exactly how you go about building your  furniture.  Since you are the one who has posted the most I wanted to inquire of your methods.

I teach a class of woodworkers every Saturday morning beginning at the end of summer up until a week before Christmas.  What they do is build Christmas presents for the needy.  This year they wanted to increase the size of gifts and have in mind some chest of drawers and a couple storage chests.

Lets face it, it takes a considerable amount of time to build a high end dresser and if I am involved with overseeing the build of the five I mentioned, it will take more time than I have left to spend on them before Christmas.   I am looking for a quick way of doing this for the group I am working with.

I would appreciate any photos that you wish to show and keeping in mind your chest will not be copied.  It is the method of which is of interest.  Although they are familiar with the pocket hole method, with some even buying jigs, they are somewhat overwhelmed  as to how to build a complete project.  Because of the size of the projects they will be building them at their garage shops and that makes it hard to over see such a project every week.  I'm looking for examples to show.

Here is a thought of which you may not have even thought of.  From one woodworker to another, what really makes your projects shine above others is the simple fact that all woodworkers like seeing methods of work which includes joinery and how the object is built.  That is how the learning comes about.  I know from experience that not everyone builds the same project the same way as others and that is what makes your work unique to you.  Some of the work done here by the ones that I have seen so many times is easily recognized as being theirs just by seeing the joinery methods and how they build the project.  So to me and any serious woodworker that I know, value not just the final photo of a project but also the method of its construction.  What I am trying to say is that when I talk about a project to another woodworker I do not just talk about how it looks, but I will spend more time talking about how it is made and the joinery that is involved.  In the world of a craftsman it does not just involve butt joinery and pocket screws but other joinery methods as well.  What is interesting about this site is the fact that now there is a fast and strong method of joinery using the kreg pocket hole and using it with other methods of joinery.  For example many use the pocket hole to build drawers and doors.  I do not, as I use the dove tails in drawers and either mortise and tendon and or a door joint done by a door bit on the router table.   However I would be  foolish not to include the Kreg pocket hole joinery in building such things as the face frame and or the cabinet box.  Why? I know that the pocket hole joint is a method that makes a sound and accurate joint and can be done so rapidly and accurately.  So see this is the method that I use and I know that everyone does not do the same as I do and that is part of what makes my project unique to me.  So throw in a few construction photos to make the package complete.

Being serious and truthful you have the potential of becoming a very good craftsman who has the potential to build superior woodworking.  I would like to see this continue.  Your friendship would be appreciated. Thanks Andy.

Hi Jay. I can take some photos of where I did the pocket holes if that helps and the supports for top and drawer slides etc?  I usually start by building both sides.  They are made of 1 by 4s with 4 joined together and the edges slightly rounded before joining them.  I built myself a saw guide that I can set to the length required to get repetitive cuts equal length.  That saves a lot of time in both marking and cutting and in having to sand afterwards if slightly off when relying on cutting on a pencil line.  PI then attach the front rails and then back  ones.  Then I build the drawers measured total of 1 inch narrower than space for them.  That is what takes the time to be honest but I get better the more I do.  I tend to build the drawer without gluing to check it fits well.  Once I know is okay I then take apart and glue and screw back together.  The top on this is 1 by 4s pocket holed together.  If you want to add me as a friend I can then email you some pics of the inside if you like?  Let me know what other info would help?

Andy H, looking at the dressers you posted, they look pretty nice in the raw.  I am thinking of building some for Christmas gifts and finishing them with just a clear coat.  If possible I would like to see some photos of your construction methods as I have five that I would like to build.  I was hoping that that maybe your construction methods would speed up the process since Christmas is fast approaching.  Thank you in advance
