All new Kreg Jig "wannabe" users - how did you set up your shop?

I am quickly approaching retirement age and would like to take this time to set up my basement woodworking shop to be efficient and functional.  What tools did you deem invaluable and had to have? What specific Kreg Jig arrangements did you make? Did anyone else have to overcome the problem of having a basement workshop that forced you to build your projects and get them up the stairs and out of the house? What tips can you give for that handicap? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jan,
I'd say a good table saw is the key machine for a happy woodworker then a medium to a large size plunge router with a depth adjustable screw. I built my workshop on the roof of my house. When I deal with large heavy sheet goods or lumbers I break them out in the front yard over a knock-down cutting table (woodsmith #185) with a circular saw to manageable sizes then lift them upstairs for further machining. If the project is some how large and heavy like a bed or bookcase I plan ahead and end up with multiple pieces that can be assembled in the final location (pocket-hole joinery takes a big advantage over the glue & clamp on this regard).
A designing software like Sketch-Up (available free for non-commercial) saves me a lot of time and money planning my projects and testing to fit. Wish you smooth retirement and happy woodworking.

Thank you so much  Khalid. Very helpful-where theres a will theres a way I guess. Thanks again.

A short list of must have tools:

a. Multitool

b. Random Orbital Sander

c. Cordless Drill

d. Circular Saw along with the Kreg "Rip Cut"

e. The Kreg DIY Project Kit is also a good start

I found it best to buy the Tools as you need them instead of going out and trying to get them all at once. Doing it this way allows you to build experience and develop a good eye for the correct tool you will need next.

Thanks Jerry. Great advice. Thats what I've been doing so I'm on my way.
