Hello all. Needing some guidance. I am doing a backsplash, and am joining 2 boards cut at 45 degrees. How can I use my jig to join these boards?

That should be plenty solid.  Can't wait to see a pic of the finished project.  Hard to go wrong following Jay's advice. . . that's why I planted cameras in his shop that he doesn't know about - so I can steal all his other secrets!  BWAHAHAHAHA!  ;-)

I'm looking forward to the final product for sure!  I'll put some pics up when it is done…..if I like what I see.  Any cameras put up in my shop would be to record the greenhorn chronicles!

Hey J. Pree.  We all start somewhere and that is being what we might consider our selves as  "a green horn" but by working at it we become better with each try as it is a learning experience.  I was privileged over the years to have had the opportunity to train two other people the cabinet making trade and they both went on to make a career of it and open their own business.  One of these guys even had trouble reading a tape measure when he started however this last year he was able to make close to  $80,000.  The secret is to stick to the learning, by reading everything possible, watching others when they build, try to learn something from everyone's methods, ask questions and never give up.  Many who start begin and when problems arise they do not ask questions or try to figure out how to solve the problem and they just plain give up and start saying that they can't do it.  Once they say the words " I can't do it" they have just been defeated.  Had they stuck to the business of working and trying and did as you did, and ask questions.  In the process you solved your problem and learned a few things  from other's methods, such as you did from Russ Haynes who gave you a solution.  You also were able to see some of my methods for cutting and turning angles in cabinet building.

What this says to me is that you will go a long ways towards being a excellent woodworker and only your own imagination is the limit as to what you can do.   It also tells me that again someone else has found that there is large amount of information in the Kreg Community.  It will become even better if every member would contribute something to it.

Thank you for being an active member and adding something to this community of members.  Yes I am anxious to see your photos and any documentation as it will be exciting to watch your woodworking ability grow.

Well thank you Russ as I take that as a complement.  I did note that you gave some good advise to J. Pree's problem.  About the cameras In my shop,  I have been feeling that someone is watching me when I work but I was thinking it was the "Spirits of the Woodworkers" that was giving me that feelings.  Come on over and we can do some work.  My shop is always open to anyone who wants to stop by.  The only catch is that I will put you to work.

Thanks Jay!  If I'm ever in the upper northwest, you can count on it.  Work is what I like.

I once thought that there were spirits of WWrs watching me in my shop too, but I think they saw all the screwups and heard all the swearing and decided to move into Mark Spagnolo's shop...

Totally agree with what you told J. Pree -- we all start somewhere.  I got on this board for info and advice when I was just getting started in WWing.  It's only by practice and the free-sharing of ideas (and the mutual support of generous WWrs) that we all develop.  I've never seen a group of people more generous with their time and expertise than WWrs -- it's very heartening in today's selfish society.

Here is the final product - just little stuff left to do.  The joined boards are the backsplash about 1/2 way.  Thank you all for your very helpful advice.  Time to make sawdust!

VERY nice.  It turned out great.  Good work!

J.Pree, It did turn very nice and I think Russ gave you some good advise on this project.  From the description of how you planned on doing it and seeing the final result I agree it does look very nice and a joint that has enough strength in it, and resistance to any water that it should last a life time.  Well done.

Thanks Russ and Jay - proof even a blind squirrel can find a nut!  Time to start the next project.  Thanks again for your help.
