I just used a clear polyurathane finish on cedar. It is probably not the best choice for a table, but we liked it was locally grown, harvested and milled. It is such a beautiful wood and smells great! The poly seems to have hardened up the table top, but we picked up some desk mats for when the kids do their school work. We are sure it won't stay undinged forever, but we are ok with that.

I'm jealous, Your table looks beautiful. I wish I would have thought of the pedestal design for my farmhouse table. And your stain(or not), would have been perfect for the chairs I already had for my table.

Did you use a stain, or did you just add the polyurathane to plain wood?  Is that pine. I couldn't find pine that nice.

Jig settings for 2 ¾ x 1 ½ boards with 30 degree miters?
