Kreg Owners' Community

Hi Kreg Jig Members,

I was wondering if anyone has purchased the new Kreg DB210 Pocket-Hole Machine yet.  If not, you are missing out on the enjoyment that a fine woodworking tool will bring you.  Like I said in a prior post, I had the fortunate opportunity of testing this machine while it was in its production phase.  I found that it is a hearty machine that offers possibilities that are beyond that of the jigs that most of us have.

During the testing, I ran it through a series of  tests of which ended up boring around a 1,000 holes. These holes were done in all types of materials from soft and hard wood to different types of plywood and melamine.  It performed well and without any problems.  After the testing I was convinced that I needed one.  I found it to be both accurate and fast, making drilling pocket holes an easy task.

If mounted into a work bench so that it is flat to the surface, it would work exceptionally well drilling flat stock.  The balancing act of holding sheet stock, such as plywood, into a fixed bench-mounted jig, holding it in a horizontal position, and then dragging the stock through the jig to drill all the pocket holes is over.  Now it is a comfortable and easy operation, and without having to juggle the drill and bit during the moving of the stock and drilling as you move the stock through the jig.  The other method is having the jig free and the stock stationary, moving the jig along the length of the stock, and then clamping it at each point where you want a hole is also tedious, slow, and tiring.  With the new machine, it is just slide the plywood or stock along the table surface and, with one motion, pull the handle down, clamping and drilling the pocket hole.  No more standing stock on end so that it is vertical, as all work is done on a flat table.  This also gives you greater accuracy.

Even thought some are reluctant to spend nearly $400.00 for the machine and 3/8-inch bit setup, I felt that after the testing of the machine it was worth much more than the asking price.  I rated the price of being around $600.00 dollars.  Having the experience of using the other higher-priced Kreg pocket-hole machines costing in the $800.00 plus price range, I felt that this machine was of equal quality and performance.  It also comes with added features right out of the box, having the ability to adapt the other bits sizes, as well as being light and portable enough to move to a job site if needed.

Since the Kreg Jig is among the top used tools in most of our shops today, $399.99 is really a bargain.  We spend much more for other dedicated tools and it is only reasonable to do the same for a such dedicated tool used in making quality wood joints.  What I have found out is that this machine allows the making of joinery much easier and faster and increases not only your productive time but also much more enjoyment out of woodworking.  Whether it be as a hobby or as a business, you win either way.  It masters the pocket-hole technology in a simple package and does so with the sacrifice of accuracy and quality.

No, I am not getting paid or compensated to say this.  I just wanted to pass along what "hands on" working with this machine has taught me and how it turns the work of doing pocket-hole joinery into enjoyment .  It is truly an excellent investment.  Although we will always need the pocket-hole jigs we have enjoyed during our learning experience with pocket-hole joinery, the DB210 has crossed the bridge into the professional level of pocket-hole tooling at a reasonable cost.  I urge you as a friend to take a look and try one out as soon as possible.  It is an exciting experience.
