Kreg Owners' Community

During the repairs (after chair # 5 was done), I realized that the tip of the Kreg drill had broken off.   Anyone else ever have this happen??  The only other time I'd used the drill and jig was to put the chair-leg jig together.

The folks at the Rockler store in Buffalo were kind enough to mail me a new drill, but that took two days via USPS First Class and just under $20.  Oh, well - - -the cost of volunteer work, I guess.  :o(

But another issue occurred.  I noticed that the Kreg jig was getting pretty warm.  In fact, the metal part was too hot to touch.  This was as I was doing the drilling for chair #6.   It was taking me about 15 minutes per chair, so I don't think I was overdoing things...just taking my time.

The attached pics show that the plastic was beginning to melt and one of the "barrels" unseated and started to pull out of the Kreg jig body. And the drill wouldn't go all the way into that barrel.  After everything cooled down to room temp, (I assume the contraction of the metal diminished), the drill would go into the barrel all the way to the stop collar.  I was again able to use the jig for one more chair.

At this point I'm wondering about the quality of the Kreg components... Does it seem to you I was overusing the Kreg jig?  Have any of you experienced either of these failures?   Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul
