Kreg Owners' Community

Me again: I have a small workspace; it is the larger of my two bedrooms. Most of the time when I am working with sheet goods I have to make my cuts out on my deck with a skill saw and a straight edge, so far so good, but I want to buy some very expensive oak plywood. Question: Is it best to have the dealer cut it on her panel saw or is it best to bring it home and do it. I was thinking of asking the dealer to cut it to almost finish size and then do the trim work at home. Any help will be of great help. Also any ideas on finishing oak plywood for a well grained yet shinny finish?

Again thanks for any help I can get.

I think it's all in what you prefer. If you've been having luck the way you've been doing it then go that route. If you find it easier to have the store cut it down to smaller, easier to handle pieces and finish cut it, go for it! Good luck

I think if you have it cut by the dealer or lumberyard then you could cut it down to your size of finish project. It would also help in your time cutting down the big sheet. You could handle it better especially in a bedroom type small shop like yours.  The only thing is to make sure you give the person the right size of measurement you want cut. Oak plywood is pretty spendy especially if you miss measure on it. Good Luck

When cutting goods, at the dealer, I have them cut it 1/8 to 1/4'' oversize,

and make the finished cut myself.

Most of those personal can't make accurate cuts, with the equipment they use.

You do wood working inside your house? Do as little cutting as you can

Yes I do do as little cutting inside as I can, but I have a good shop vac, that does a good job for the most part.  I have gotten away from cutting MDF inside, I don't even like cutting it outside.

Yes, I think that is what I'll be doing. I can use my edge and skill saw to clean thinks up. Thanks for the advice.
