Kreg Owners' Community

Hello, I am about to begin my first Kreg jig project. I want to build a storage bench sturdy enough to hold all of my tools (no sagging!) Size: 36 x 18 x 24 with a hinged lid and casters. Do I need to build a solid box of birch plywood for enough support, or can I build a frame of boards (best size?) and use thinner ply for the sides? I am a complete woodworking newbie so I can use all the advice you've got! Thanks!

Hi James,

Thanks for the info!  Great idea about splitting the seat but I won't actually be using the bench for seating (strangely enough, lol)  It's just that I don't have a workshop and I think my husband will be happier with my growing tool collection if it is elegantly stored in a "bench" in the house rather than in a large "toolbox".

Yes, those are the correct dimensions and I would welcome the plans, thank you!

Hello Adriayn!

There are a few projects that you could modify to make a nice sturdy box for your tools. One would be the Kreg Potting Bench (using 2x4's) where you could make shorter to sit on, add slats to the back and screw in some 1/2" plywood to create sides, back and front. Use 3/4" plywood for the bottom and seat (top), where the seat would have the hinge. This should accommodate your tools very well.

One thing you could do is split the seat in half and while you sitting on one half you could lift the other half to have instant access to your tools without having to stand up.

If you like I could draw it up in SketchUp and provide you with a plan drawing. Are your dimensions 36L x 18W x 24H?

James :)

I'm suggesting you a to build a shed. Many woodworkers used shed as their workplace and if you plan to build a shed, the important things you should take note are the floor, the ramp, a good airflow and many more. Try to build a shed at first. A few info at http://shedplan-woodworkingguide.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-to-build-...

Try this it well keep the old lady happpy and you out of the dog house when your work out in the shop.

David, I believe its the issue is the husband and not the "old lady". Adriayn seems to be female.

Thanks for the replies (which are both helpful and funny!) and the great-looking bench.  And, I am indeed female :-)  Why don't they have a girl Kreg avatar?

You could always edit the Kreg avatar it to have a ponytail LOL.

LOL mission accomplished but no ponytail this time

Where did you find Avatars in this software?  I missed that section on signup.  About half the folks here have that generic "blank face."  And where's the smilies?

Sorry about that Adriayn.

LOL, please don't be sorry, it was kinda fun picturing my hubby as "the old lady"!  That is a beautiful bench.  Did you use a plan or make it up yourself?  Please share the fun details
