A speaker stand? Maybe the holes are for the wires, etc.?
Bird house for BIG birds and SMALL birds hahah
Well you have already conquered woodburning, tin punch, and boat building. So I would guess the next thing in line would be something that involved knitting! LOL
It holds balls of yarn letting it dispense out the holes on either end?
Just kidding. Give us a hint. What room is it for?
Kim's hint: the music room.
It's a LAMP!!! :)
I was leaning toward a speaker that goes on a stand with a hole for the piece that the stand screws into on the bottom. However... the top hole??? That kills that theory I think. My first reaction was a subwoofer but I have never seen one with that middle support. Is it particle board?
The answer is: it's called a box drum. I'm not done building it, but imagine me adding 1/4" plywood to the two sides, so only the holes on either end remain open. Then, sit on one of the long sides and beat on the plywood. It creates an incredible sound. Check out youtube.com and enter box drum. You'll be amazed!
Now that's a unique project! Good luck, Don!
Pretty cool!
Here is a link to a good example of one of these box drums being played.

Here are some updated pictures on the box drum. I need to add coats of polyeurothane.

Love the color. Now h ow about a video of you playing? :)
