Storm Window Replacement

The wooden storm windows on our 1939 Cape Cod-style house rotted out, and I built replacements from lumber ripped from 5/4" x 6" treated decking assembled in minutes using the Kreg Jig.

Jeff, those are plain butt joints. That's the nature of the Kreg system. And it works. When you try your Kreg jig for the first time, you will understand. Just to be sure, I put an exterior glue in the joints at final assembly.

John:

I haven't used my Kreg system yet but was motivated to buy it because I have to do the exact same thing on three windows.  Did you do a lap joint or tenon at all, or are those straight butt joints?  If they are butt joints, did the frame feel wobbly at all?  Did you glue?  Looks like you used the original wavy glass, did you caulk it in at all?

Anyway, nice job.

Sorry, I don't. I'm not familiar with the architectural style. - John

Hi John,

Do you have any advice for someone contemplating building windows for a Jamaca Plantation style house built in 1907? I have a bathroom window that's on the verge of falling out and I figured I could experiment with that one and see if I can do this. Then I have just 11 more to go. -Lonno

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
