I am attempting to find if the motor pads offered by for the PRS 3000 router lift will adapt my Freud FT1700 router to the lift. Since I can not readily find the diameters that these pads reduce the size down to, I would like to know if any body out there has any of the following routers that are known to fit the Kreg lift: DeWalt 618, Porter Cable 690, Porter Cable 890, Bosch 1617, or Milwaukee 5625. If you have one of these routers, could you please tell me the diameter of the motor barrel? The diameter of the motor barrel on my Freud is 3 11/16".

Thank you Kreg members!!

Hi Kenny - the motors on the routers you asked about are 3 1/2, at least all but the Milwaukee, not sure about it. Not many put the 1700 in lifts as it has above table bit change and height adjustments built in as well as 1/128" resolution built in. I've been running one for about a year and a half in the table and never desired a lift for it.

Hi Kenny the barrel on my pc 890 is 3 1/2''

Hi Kenny,

the Bosch 1617 is 3-1/2", and the Porter Cable 7518 is 4-7/32", I've used both in the router lift.

Hi Manodad; Are you using these routers in the KREG PRS 3000 router lift?

Thanks for the prompt replies guys!!

Kenny,  sorry for the delay in answering, my home computer has been down for a few days, but yes the Kreg PRS-3000 is the one I am using.

Hi Manodad; How do you like the kreg router lift?. I am having problems finding the motor pads to fit my FT1700. Since the lift only comes with one set of motor pads, where did you get the extra set of pads? Nobody, at least nobody that I have so far found in Canada, has the pads that I need, so at the moment, it appears that I will have to fabricate a set of reducing spacers to make the pads that I have accomadate my router.

Thanks again, kenny

Hi Kenny,

I do like the router lift, it saves a lot of time with minor adjustments and bit changes.  the spacers that came with the lift fit the Porter Cable.  i needed to get a larger set of spacers to fit the smaller diameter Bosch & got them from Kreg (part# PRS4110).  they would be close to fitting your Bosch, & you wouldn't have to take off much to get them to work.   mandodad

Hi Mandodad.
I don't yet have a Kreg  Router Table Lift, but I may order one if I'm sure I can make it fit one of my routers.
What are the pads made from? If exactly the right pads are not available, would it be possible to simply make my own?
Regards,
Alan.

Hello Alan;

The Kreg router lift has three sets of pads that are available. The following link will take you to The Tool Store and will give you a look at them.

http://www.thetoolstore.ca/search/search.asp?keywords=prs+4110&...

After researching on the Kreg web site and The Tool Store site I gathered the following info:

ROUTERS FOR KREG LIFT -

PRS4110 – Motor Pad: Use for Dewalt 618, Porter-Cable 690/890,Bosch 1617/1618,Craftsman 17542, 17540, 28190.
(*Porter Cable 690 & Bosch 1617 motors are to short for above the table bit changes.)

PRS4120 – Motor PadUse for Milwaukee 5625

From Kreg web page http://www.kregtool.com/Precision-Router-Table-Lift-Prodview.html

Motor Pads:

In Kreg's words, the above list are the "known routers that will fit the lift".

The PRS 4110 pads will accomadate a 3 1/2" motor barrel, I am not sure of the size of motor barrel that the PRS 4120 will accomadate. Manodad says that the diameter of the motor barrel on his PC 7518 is 4 7/16". The lift that I bought came with the pads for the big barrel PC7518, and my rough measurement of the pad diameter was close to the figure that Manodad came up with. My Freud FT 1700 has a  3 1/2" motor barrel and after phone calls to The Tool Store and several emails with Kreg, I was told that the pads I needed were not in stock in Canada and it would be another six to eight weeks to get them to me, so I fabricated some "spacers" and fine tuned them with a thin shim, and the router mounted just fine.

The two big issues of concern with mounting a router that is not on Kreg"s "known list" is first to make sure that it will clamp securely in the lift, and second that there is sufficient motor barrel lenght so that the colett extends above the table to allow ease of bit changes.

To make your own pads would be nearly impossioble, and it is much easier to alter the existing pads. I would be glad to help you in anyway that I can if you decide to go with the Kreg lift, and and should you have trouble with obtaining the proper pads, I still have left over material to make another set of spacers.

I really have not used my lift yet, but did play around with it some and it looks like it will provide the precission I have been seeking.

for Porter Cable 7518 (Motor adapter pads for the Milwaukee 5625, Porter Cable 690/890, Bosch 1617/1618, Craftsman 17542/17540/28190, and DeWalt 618 are available separately from Kreg.) From The Tool Store http://www.thetoolstore.ca/view.asp?Kreg-Router-Lift-Motor-Pad_9265

Hi Kenny.

Thank you for your detailed reply. Most appreciated.

I would happily buy the Kreg lift just on Kreg's reputation, but of course I must be sure that my router/s will fit.

Presumably the prices quoted do not attract any US taxes for an export item? I would still have to pay a minimum of 20% on each item and the shipping (the UK government really wants its pound of flesh!!!) so you can see why I'm hesitant until I'm sure.

I have a Bosch model that might be OK (need to measure it) and I have an Erbauer, which appears to be of possibly Chinese origin, but UK backup for them is excellent. I'm more inclined to use the Erbauer, because it has a 1/2HP motor and a 1/2" chuck. That would allow use of bits with 1/4" or 1/2" shafts and have enough power for raised panel cutters. My other two routers are too small and too useful freehand, to fix in a table.

Would it seem possible to use existing pads and modify them by removing material? Whilst you say it might be impossible to make copies, I do have a couple of friends who are very good with fiberglass and composition rubber molds, so that might be a possibility. I wonder if it's obvious what material has been used for the pads?

I'd best go get some measurements of what I have. :-)

Regards,

Alan.

Hello Alan:

There are at least two reducer collars available on the North American market that are made of a plastic material. These collars are full circle spacers, and I did not give them serious consideration because they would surround the motor barrel and not allow good heat dissapation. The Kreg motor pads are made of aluminium and that is the material that I used. Aluminium allows for better heat dissapation. I cut the spacers about the same width as the motor pads and fastened them to the pads with a counter sunk bevel head machine screw. I  came up a little to large with my spacers, but it was a simple matter to sandwich shims between my spacer and the motor pad. All modifications must be equal on all thrre pads to ensure that the router is centered in the lift.

I not totally sure, but it may be that all the lifts come with the large bore pads. You might also want to contact the Kreg people and pick thier brain for more info. Yhey are usually pretty good at helping where they can. The following email address should puy you in touch with a fellow that can help you with more info on the lift;
