hi Matthew, about the best way since it is round in by hand and so this by wrapping sand paper around the led and then move the sanding strokes to follow the grain of the wood otehr wise you will cause alot of cross hashing going across the grains that will be a big job removing.  look at the grain and run the sanding strokes in the same direction .
Would liquid sandpaper work or not?????
I have never really heard of liquid sand paper.  does it work good?
Try using sanding sponages, they conform to any shape. I have used them on the three church chairs and other project where I have sand in confined spaces or on an angle. They come in all different grades.
I would have to agree with the sanding sponges.  They are great.  Also go with the grain of the wood no matter what you choose to do.
Thanks guyss for the tipss!!
Ill let you no Monday after I test it

Okay thanks Jens!
Well what it is ,is a liquid that deg losses lacquers and shellacs so you can go over it  with new product.I tied it on a lacqyered pcs of wood I had and it does take the gloss off
so it does take it all the way down to the bare wood then.  atleats it takes the gloss off thoughh

I would use a stripper and follow up with a 80 grit sandpaper which I have relaxed (made to bend around the leg) easily.  a stiff sandpaper will only make it look like it was done improperly.

removing the first coat of finish is important, be sure to go with the grain..

I made a lamp on a lathe when I was a kid (quite some time ago) on a lathe. Went through the

grits and finished it up with a French polish. Turned out pretty cool. I came across that

lamp some 20 years later and it still looked great.

My comment is that you can sand cross grain through all the grits and finish up with

grain line sanding.

When I run into that situation I use psa backed sandpaper (klingspor from Leevalley) rolls,

but leave the plastic backing for a little extra strength and sand like I am polishing a shoe.

Do it to music and have a glass of wine handy (after the power tooling).

For heavier sanding I'll cut up an old sanding belt and have at it.

Don.
