KREG BENCHTOP ROUTER TABLE REVIEW UPDATE.

Well had the benchtop router table a fair while now .Overall pretty pleased with it ,however another small problem i have discovered is concerning the table overhang. Its really non existent, so it does not lend itself well too clamping any auxcillary fences too the edge of the table .Which i have needed to do at times, you can clamp too the edge but you need a spacer block between the metal frame of the table and your clamp so it sits flat very fiddly. So just a suggestion to kreg would it be a idea too make the new benchtop tables with a 3"overhang all round ?Still pleased with the table and still scores 8out of 10.

A person could technically build a table around it for more surface area and use a bolt-on adjustible guide.

Long-time Kreg fan, and advanced woodworker.  I have used the Kreg pocket hole system for years and love the quality.  I needed a benchtop router table and shopped around and read lots of reviews. I knew Kreg means quality, and invested in the PRS2000 model benchtop router table.  I have also heard that Kreg's customer service is legendary.  The table is absolutley AMAZING.  Rock Solid,-- built like a tank.  All the parts were there, and even a few extra.  Clear instructions, and the levelling system is brilliant.  I'd give the table 5 stars, and the fence 1 star -- It's trash.

Pro's -- Solid table, perfect size, for jobsite.  Fantastic, noise reducing, anti-slip rubber feet, and the miter gauge track is great.   Table-top surface is smooth as glass.

Cons -- Phenolic plastic insert plate sags/ Is not flat, and the holes for the leveling clips are plastic and strip out easily.  Why not make this aluminum, Kreg??

The hole in the center of the insert plate (Model PRS2000) is way too small, -- and i can't use half of my bits.  Forget about raised panel cutter bits.   The fence is a huge disappointment and Kreg needs to go back to the workshop on this one.  Maybe I just got a lemon.  ???  The fence doesn't sit at 90 degree angle.  Tightening with only moderate pressure on the bolts and it gets worse.   Second, the large plastic knobs on the vertical bolts to tighten the fence protrude over the top edge of the fence about 1/4 " inch and above the edge about 1/2 inch, so you can only use the tips of your fingers, or you get your fingers pinched.  I hear they got so many complaints on this aspect, they got new cam bolts.  I will contact Customer Service and send back the fence.  A new fence from Incra will run about $130 or more.   Still a huge KREG fan -- I'll update this comment when I hear back from Kreg or get a new fence.

Mick,

Have you entertained the idea of adding an edgeband around the table top, so as to provide a lip for clamping?

I am a big fan of tracks ken ,as i can see you are.

Mick,

Some custom tops I've made, 2" overhang works out perfect.

"F" style clamps fit nicely, as well as other clamps.

On tops with a small overhang,

I find this style track very useful.

Multi Track for Jigs and Custom Fences

T-Track Hold Down

A t-track hold-down, as well as t-bolts and hex head bolts, fit into the slots.

The track suffices nicely as a fence, or for hold-downs.  The track can be orientated flat, as shown, or in an upright position.

Auxiliary wood material can be added to the track to make a higher fence.

The track can be positioned a various angles on a work top, or the like, to do machining at other than 90 degrees.

This style track has many useful applications.

Other useful features, this track offers.

  Multi Tracks interfaced with bracket

I have them in an ''at-the-ready'' location for quick access,

for many tasks.

Yeah probably right there ken,and a good piont for kregs future tables.2" overhang do mighty fine.

Mick,

A 3" overhang sounds good, but

I believe 2" is adequate for most general purpose clamping needs.
