Oak Bathroom Mirror Frame

It was time to update the kids bathroom. Originally, there were 2 small oval mirrors over each sink, but they were a bit too small. It left most of the wall empty. I told the kids I could make a wooden frame and just buy a box-store clean mirror. After buying the mirror and getting the exact measurements (3' x 4'), I could begin the build. I decided to use oak to handle the weight of the mirror and to be more durable. I made a rabbet on the backside to accept the mirror and used 1" mending plates to hold it in place. To hang it, I bought two 45" Hangman "Z" hangers to make sure that I could span 3 studs to hold the weight. I also made a small shelf to fill the hole where there used to be a medicine cabinet.

I didn't use plans, just sort of knew what I wanted to build.

First, I purchased this mirror from Home Depot

Then I bought some 1x4 & 1x2 dimensional oak.  I made a 1/2" rabbet around the inside of the frame to accept the mirror, then added the 1x2's to the outside of the frame.
