Kreg Owners' Community

Hello, has anybody in Australia managed to get hold of the Kreg KWS1000 Mobile Project Centre? I have tried Amazon but the freight was more than the tool cost and the local distributor, Carba-Tec don't have it and are't interested in helping. I assume this might change when Amazon open in Australia but that won't be until 2018.

Thanks.

Lee.

We don’t have anyone in Australia who is stocking them yet. Carba-Tec will be bringing them in, but it might take a couple months for them to get there. The best option, for now, is to either wait or order from us directly (which will be high freight as well). We apologize for the delay. It takes some time to get new product overseas.

HI and thanks for replying,

I have had appalling customer service from Carba-Tec over the years regarding Kreg products.

Here is the latest from them a week ago. If you really want to move a lot of product contact Bunnings, a division of Wesfarmers, They are HUGE. _

Hi Lee
Thank you for your e-mail.
Our purchasing department have advised we will not be stocking this particular product.
Kind regards
Michelle

I have found the Adelaide branch of Carbatec fairly good to deal with. Bunnings are ok if it is in stock but special orders is on another level altogether, 12 weeks to supply a $1 latch for my mothers clothesline.

CL Tool Centre has them now.

When I feel rich I think I will get a pair.

Thanks Brad, I will check freight cost today and place an order.

Lee did you get one if so what do you think of it? Carbatec had them briefly but expect more stock in December.

Hi Brad, I didn't get one in time and now they are out of stock until December. I had to go back to work to pay for my Kreg toys but now don't have the time to do woodwork. It's the old catch 22. Still hoping for Amazon to open in Australia and sort out the retailers with "exclusive" rights to certain brands. I definitely will be getting 1 or two in the new year when I retire yet again.

Hi Brad, I bought one through Carbatec and it arrived late last week. It looks like I was lucky but I look at their website whenever I don’t want to talk to my family (most nights). Overall I like the table, except for the fiddly attachment method for K5 and K4 jigs. So tonight I fitted M4 nutserts (rivnuts) and I just drop M4 x 30 Allen head bolts in - works much better. I’ll post a photo.
The table is quite heavy, about 20 kg, so don’t expect to carry it long distances under your arm. I bought two extra track clamps for it. One regret: over the last year or so whenever I’ve bought Kreg fasteners in the plastic tubs I’ve thrown the tubs away. If I had kept them I could hang them from the recess around the perimeter of the table top. Bugger.

Thanks Roger, I have my Foreman held down with HD screws into some 38mm melamine but I like the nutsert idea as I have the tool and there is a Bosch saw I am looking at on promo that looks like the mounting hole pattern is similar.

I think I have 5 Kreg screw boxes from 3/4 to HD and Decking, just need to work out some shelves or drawers under the clamp, foreman and router tables.

I bet I won't be lucky enough to have the 2x4 slots match the ones on my saw horses.

Hi Riger

I have the Project Centre also. How did you put in the Rivnuts. Did you put the wider part (ie flange) underneath the table. Did you use a tool or just fit a screw and do it up tight thus pulling the rivet up into the hole in the table.
Steve

Hi Steve,

I drilled the plain holes out by a small amount, just enough to take the M4 rivnuts.  I then used a 1/2” drill bit to slightly countersink the holes in the top surface of the table, so that the flange of the rivnuts would sit flush with the surface.  Setting the rivnuts was done from above with a Kincrome Rivnut tool, which expanded the rivnut into the hole for an interference fit.  When I fit the K4 or K5 jig to the table, I tighten using an Allen key by hand only.  The jigs only need to be retained, they don’t need a lot of clamp load so there is no need to over-tighten the bolts in the rivnuts.

I hope this helps.  I can take more photos if you wish.  Cheers.

Roger

Rodger did you use a brad point drill or just a normal one for the countersink?
