I was in the process of drilling pocket holes in a gaggle of milled 2 x 4s and 3/4 ply  to build a cart for my lathe.  In the process, I knocked my drill off the bench with my Kreg bit in it.  When I went to drill the next holes, I discovered that I had bent the bit where the hex shaft meets the drill rod.  My question is can this be repaired by the sharpening service, or should I trash it an get another?

Fortunately, I purchased a spare bit some time ago, and was able to finish drilling the pocket holes.  The ease at which the new bit worked also indicated to me how dull the old, now bent bit had become.

If it is bent I would say scrap it and get a new one just to be safe.

Tim,

Check with your sharpening service, if they can accomplish this task.

Check with a tool-machine shop, in your area.

(Most don't possess the skill to perform this task.  They may be fearful of breaking the drill bit).

Bent drill bits can be straightened/made "true",

with adequate techniques.

I've encountered bent drill bits, and fixed them to "run true".

Tim,
