Kreg Owners' Community

G'day everyone,

My name is Dave Loker and I reside at Emu Plains NSW, Australia, which is about 65 kilometers west of Sydney at the foot of the Blue Mountains.  I am retired but am an active member of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service.  The service does occupy a considerable amount of my timed but I have been all over Australia as result and enjoy giving back to the communities and helping people in need.

I love woodworking and have been doing some "wood butchering" for over 50 years.  I am a member of the Western Sydney Woodturner's Guild where we have 85+ members who range from beginner to master woodworker.  I learn something new every time I go to the shop plus we always have a grand yarn surrounding lunch when all the machines and ventilation systems are shut down.

I mainly dabble with recycled hardwood and timber logs which is in ample supply in Australia.  I also have a fair amount of Huon Pine from our most southern state, Tasmania, it's only source of supply.  I currently sell some of my finer items at Blackheath Hub which is a local's crafter's outlet up at the very top of the Blue Mountains.  There are some amazing items for sale there and we all do very well as people who visit the area feel they must take a part of Sydney back home with them.  I mainly make and sell tall clocks and bird houses which have been purchased by patrons from all over the world.  I also make unique hardwood tables using hardwood fence palings which I pickup for free along the foot paths or from fencing companies before they are taken to the tip.  They are only made for family and friends.  If I were to sell them the price would be prohibitive as I usually have lots of time involved so I merely make them for pleasure.

I really like the Kreg tool and use it often in my work.  I also have two imported Shopsmith machines with attachments which aids me in making a quality finished product.

I look forward to hearing from other members through this medium and to learning new tricks and ideas.

Cheers and chat wth you again soon.

Welcome from Southside Va. I bet you don't feel retired if you are active in the rural fire service. ;-)

Hello James,

Thanks for replying to my introduction to the group. Between my woodworking (wood butchering) and my involvement with the fire service I really am more busy than when I was working. The balance of the two keeps me fit and sharp.

I look forward to interacting with the group and swapping a few ideas, etc. keep in touch.

Cheers,

David
