Kreg Owners' Community

Hi

As you are aware you need certain Screws for different size timber when you are joining with pocket holes. If you are like me I scratch my head (which is nearly bald) when looking up the sheets or selector wheel, which over here in Australia is way too dear. I decided that a spread sheet would be better.

So attached is an spread sheet for selecting screws for both edge & face joints.

I know some of you will say that there is a web page that does the same but I am afraid that the wireless connection to the internet does not reach to my workshop.

Regards

Paul

Great job on this! I will find it very useful, especially when away from my shop. Thanks for posting!

How do I select for various timber thickness

John

There are two drop down boxes Pocket Hole board thickness and Base board thickness. Just click on the box and you will see a arrow next to it just click on the arrow and the selection will be available.

Thank you, Paul.  I was getting tired of the inconvenience of 'trial & error'.  Your spreadsheet is a welcome aid.

Hi Paul. I am in Australia too. I am in Townsville and it is impossible to buy Kreg screws here. I have to buy them from Carbatec who seem to have the exclusive rights to sell Kreg screws in Australia. They charge a non negotiable $18.00 postage and last time I ordered from them they took two weeks to arrive. I could have bought them from overseas quicker and cheaper. If Kreg are willing to let one company be the exclusive distributor I feel that Kreg will never become a common name in a country of 24,000,000 people.

Hi Lee.

Have you tried Amazon.com?  I'm sure they ship to Australia and have the full line up of Kreg screws.

Amazon.com has only a limited presents here in Australia. When you log onto the American or English sites they restrict what you can have sent to Australia. Probably something to do with Australian laws.

Lee

where about overseas do you buy them from

I always get mine from Amazon; no probs. I'm in WA

Thanks everyone for replying. I think the problem here stems from only having one authorised importer. This does not encourage competition. The US has laws to prevent a monopoly. the US anti trust law. We have the ACCC, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission which should be putting a stop to these exclusive deals where a consumer has no choice but to buy from one "Authorised" distributor. I have often tried to buy items from overseas only to be told to contact the Authorised Australian Distributor. This applies to a lot of products of course not only Kreg. It may be valid for tools and jigs etc where there may be warranty issues but surely something like screws are consumables?  Perhaps I should import pocket hole screws from overseas and set up shop on Ebay?  Just a thought.

It may be a really odd question, but can you order things from other countries that is not the US?  Say... France or England?  You may be able to go around the "import rules" corner that way.

Freight is the killer when buying from the other side of the world. Tools, screws etc are made of steel and so cost more to send by air than they cost to buy. If I could find a Chinese supplier the problem would be over as almost everything I buy from Hong Kong is freight free.

Look into Ali Express.  They are a Chinese supplier that has everything you could think of.  Not sure if they carry Kreg brand screws, but sure that they would have something comparable.
