Kreg Owners' Community

About two years ago my daughter, who is an EMT in the local ambulance company, asked me to make an equipment storage box for the back of her Chevy Suburban.  I used 1/2 inch plywood and made a box the full width of the interior and about 18 inches high.  It had two doors on the top.  The whole project was made using my Kregs Pocket Hole Joinery system.  One fine day she was driving down a 4 lane highway at about 50mph when she was struck in the rear by an SUV going at a high rate of speed.  She had her girlfriend and the friends 3 kids in the Suburban with her.  They took such a hard hit the floor boards rippled all the way up.  Not only did the box hold up fine, but all the body shop men that saw the aftermath said that box saved the passenger compartment.  Everyone escaped with only minor injuries, but the Suburban was a total loss..

Good story, Joe.

Thanks for sharing.

Do you by any chance have "before" pictures of the box (before the accident)??  I like seeing pictures of people's successes - even the ones that don't save lives.
