Comment by Jack on March 13, 2012 at 2:19pm All cuts I've seen so far using the rip cut tool were with short cuts. How about some cuts where the saw is out near the end of the tool (where stability and accuracy is more of an issue)?
Comment by Mark Rehl on March 24, 2012 at 10:00am I too would like to see how it handles when the saw is out to the extreme extention and the possibility of of binding is most prevalent as we have all experienced. I have used a separate rip guide with clamping from underneath for years and have not found anything better yet when ripping a 4 x 8 sheet of stock lengthwise
Comment by RCW on March 26, 2012 at 2:10pm What is the brand of clamp that clamps underneath that you use for a rip guide?
Comment by Mark Rehl on March 27, 2012 at 5:03am RCW - OK - it's 0554 hours and I just opened my eyeballs. Be back in a minute. Whew!!!! Two flights of stairs this early is not fun when you are bionic. Alrighty now - it's a Hirsch Straight Cut. Two pieces with a real solid connection piece so you can use it on smaller pieces. There is a track down the middle of underside where the clamps ride and they can be torqued down pretty good. It will handle 2 x 4 stock with no problem. I've had mine for about thirty years and still works fine.
Comment by Mark Rehl on March 27, 2012 at 5:06am Almost forgot - with the Hirsch guide I can keep BOTH hands on the saw.
Comment by RCW on March 27, 2012 at 10:26am Wow had it for 30 years huh?, Sounds like one made by a company called Bora or something like that. They sell it online and at Lowes. I was thinking of getting one. Thanks for the info.
Comment by Mark Rehl on March 28, 2012 at 4:50am OK - never should run two flights of stairs before my meds. It is a Hirsch " The Cutter's Edge".
