Kreg Owners' Community

I'm a long time Kreg Jig owner and have always upgraded when new models come to market I attended a seminar with the Kreg Rep for Canada recently and seen the K5 it was not long afterward that I purchased the K5 I'm very impressed with the features and performance of this new product it has all the features that I or anyone would want. I really do not know how Kreg will ever improve on this model. I highly recommend to anyone who is buying or thinking of upgrading to buy the K5.

Gary;

I was in one of the big box stores today and they where selling the K4 master kit and they wanted 20.00 dollars more then I paid for the K5 I bought about a month ago. I could not believe it. You where right people should be buying the K5 when it is less money and you get more.

I do not understand why people are still buying K4 instead of K5? The only reason is small difference in price. If I had not already found a K3 I would have bought the K5. K5 is closer to the K3 which has the front handle like K5 plus auto adjusting the tension. The built in storage bins are a plus.

William " willie "  Sims:

Thank You, I could not of written it better and it really appreciate your response. I have been woodworking for years and it was my local Kreg Rep that mentioned in one of his seminars that people should join so I thought I should and share ideas and get input from other members. You are also correct there are some amazing members the projects that I have looked through and some are amazing.

Thank You Jeff

Jeff, someone should have warned you about Mr. Darga. He seems to be one of the most experienced woodworkers on this forum,BUT he likes to bait new people into arguments epically when they try to express an opinion. He has helped a lot of people and has good advise most of the time. I also believe he has turned people off to this forum because of his attitude. Just wait to see how he responds to me. You have never seen me here before even though I've been a member for several years. It's people like Ken that keep me behind the scenes. I am an avid woodworker and have been for over 40 years. Please don't let this bad attitude turn you off from this site. There are a lot of good people here that do great work and can help.

Sometimes a forum would be better of without some people despite their good advise and help, just my opinion.

Ken;

You go ahead and blow holes as you call it all you want I can stop you, but considering after your replies to what  I think the  advantages to the K5 are that  you requested I submit. I went on to the Kreg web site and read the details of the K5 for the first time ever and the facts are my statements are based in facts from the manufacture. So you are exactly that blowing something and I do not think it is holes.

And by the way I tried hand tightening the nut you are talking about just to have it come lose down the side of a large entertainment center so after that I always tighten that nut with a wrench.

You Take Care and for what ever reason you started this, I have looked at your pictures and your work is actually quite good and the advice you give is accurate.

Jeff,

>>>...I could blow holes in all your replies.../p>

I welcome your feed-back.

Ken;

You asked for what I thought where the advantages then I gave them and you start going through them one at a time trying to tear them up first and foremost I have a K5 and it is much more advanced than all other Kreg Jigs to date I could blow holes in all your replies  but will not. I have not seen or read a bad review of the K5 but have with the K3 and that is why with the K4 they dropped the front clamp function until they could improve that feature.

>>>...messing with a wrench to loosen a nut.../span>

When adjusting the locking nut, only "finger-tight" is adequate---

I've never found that a wrench is necessary, on any of the other drilling jig models.

>>>...The front handle for securing the wood in the jig.../span>

The K3 features the handle on the front.

>>>...The wood support is also handy storage boxes for all the accessories..../span>

The storage receptacles only accommodate the drill bit(s), driving bit(s), wrench.

I didn't find the receptacle large enough to accommodate the accessory clamps.

>>>...The spring loaded drill block to adjust to different material as well fast and easy..../span>

If a failure occurs with the spring mechanism, can it be user serviced or does one to send it in for factory service?

>>>...I really think it will be hard to find any improvements.../span>

Someone will express criticism.

Great Question Ken;

My first product review ever next will be better,

The advantages I find with the K5 are

The front handle for securing the wood in the jig especially when it is a large piece of plywood such as a cabinet side you can easily move the piece to a new location without having to try to reach around back.

The vacuum port extracts from either side of the jig quickly changes sides.

The auto adjust feature of the clamp instead of messing with a wrench to loosen a nut and then turning the swivel pad to the right position and retightening a nut, with the K5 no tools and adjusts to new thickness quick and easy.

The spring loaded drill block to adjust to different material as well fast and easy.

The wood support is also handy storage boxes for all the accessories.

I really think it will be hard to find any improvements for  a non commercial model.

Jeff,

What are the advantages that you find that you "highly recommend" the K5 vs the forerunner models?
