It started with the Jig Jr. and one crooked and fuzzy (never use "weathered" MDF) book case. Now I have the Deck Jig and 500 lbs. of lumber sitting in the patio. Too many projects, so little time.

Aaron, Should not be a problem if the bit breaks as it did in my case. The chuck was able to grab the bit to allow me to finish. Also, with the instructions provided by KregRep I have already received the new drill bit.

Here's a photo of the new and improved Kreg black shank bit.

Good luck and happy building on your new deck.

Well, Im starting to get a little nervous. I have 750 sq ft of decking sitting at a customers house. I guess I'll have to go buy the $20 bit just to have a spare on hand. The standard 3/8" Kreg bits are nearly bulletproof. I used one to pre-drill a 2,200 sq ft ipe deck last year. Thats nearly 5,000 holes without a problem!

George, the deck looks great! You work fast. Thank you for posting photos, and thank you as well for brining the drill bit issue up... last week we discovered a flaw with certain Deck Jig Drill Bits we have sent out... your bit, and Mark's, are clearly a member of that particular batch. Here is more information on the broken drill bit issue, and how you can be sure to get a replacement bit:

My drill bit broke also after about 200 screws. Right where they put the pin in to holld it together. I'm going to ask Kreg to replace it. Lowes wants $20.00 for a new one.

Well, finished up my short Saturday project, a quick 10 X 16 deck using the Kreg Deck Jig. I worked without a hitch; with the exception of the end coming off of the drill bit. Thankfully, my drill

chuck was able to grab it and finish the job!!!
