"I've found that with Euro hinges and the profile I route into the edges that I need to use thicker stock for the rails and stiles of my cabinet doors. I make mine ⅞" and no longer have a problem."

"You could try lining up the leveling blocks to the lift and then drill new screw holes in the bottom of the table."

Robert Melrose replied to Deac Manross's discussion 'How easy is it to adjust router bit height adjustment with a Kreg Router Table? Can you do it ABOVE the table?'
"You would have to drill a hole for that. The Kreg router plates don’t have any mounting holes in them. They do have a template that will help you center your router though. Then you mark the screw locations and the location for the height…"

Robert Melrose replied to Mark Schwartz's discussion 'Difficulty Drilling Pocket Holes and Screws In ACQ Treated Pine'
"This may sound silly but is the drill turning in the right direction? Clockwise? There's no reason that a treated board should drill that hard unless the bit is dull or broken."

Robert Melrose replied to Jim's discussion 'Beginner here, K-5 jig,'
"You can use it on 4x4 stock just not in the clamping fixture. The K-5 should have come with a guide for using it outside of the fixture. Use the 1-½ setting and drill on at least 2 sides."

Robert Melrose replied to Mark Schwartz's discussion 'Difficulty Drilling Pocket Holes and Screws In ACQ Treated Pine'
"Sounds like the bit is dull/broken. If it wasn't before it certainly is now that it's been heated like that. Make sure you are using the correct settings on the jig and correct stop collar position. How are you joining the boards? End…"

Robert Melrose replied to scott.barnes's discussion 'Mini Trak with Bench Klamp?'
"The bolts on the kreg clamps don't fit in the mini track. Kreg sells klamp track for the clamps. If you used t-bolts with the same thread it would work but you would have to cut them to length."

Robert Melrose replied to Dwayne's discussion 'I need plans for this. Help'
"Step 1. Select the material (wood) you would like to use. Step 2. Figure out what dimensions you want your project to be. Step 3. Decide what joinery methods you will use for each part. Step 4. Make a cut list. Step 5. Cut material to dimension from…"

Robert Melrose replied to Robert Melrose's discussion 'Kreg jig as a doweling jig'
"I used the kreg bit. I have a few extras so I ground off the pilot tip so I could get the depth that I wanted without going through the surface. The brad point bit is a good idea though but the ones I have aren't long enough."

Kreg jig as a doweling jig

I was recently making a sofa table for my wife when I came across the dilemma of attaching the top to the aprons. The table was constructed using mortise and tenon joinery and I didn't want to use any metal fasteners. I love my kreg jig but I didn't want to use pocket screws in this piece. So what I did is set the depth collar to drill deeper. I clamped the pieces together and drilled the pocket holes into both pieces but not through th surface. I then spread glue on 3/8 ths dowel and drove…See More

Robert Melrose replied to chris nowacki's discussion 'kreg a compound?'
"It won't work. Even if you cut your mitres after you drill the holes. from the inside of the box the angle will be wrong and there won't be any material for the screw to screw into. The Kreg jig is a great tool but it does have it's…"

Robert Melrose replied to Glen's discussion '$249.00 portable table saw that has accuracy and precision right down to .0001in. It's here'
"The micro adjuster will let you adjust in .001" increments so you can sneak up on the right dimension. In woodworking the nature of the material would prohibit accuracy to .0001 temperature and humidity and the fact that wood can be compressed…"

Robert Melrose replied to Tim Rude's discussion 'What happened to the K3 vs K4 discussion?'
"There are still some K3 master systems out there but the K3 is being replaced by the K4 in the master system. You are lucky you got the K3"
