Hi Mike,
Sorry we missed your question in chat yesterday. Your first project idea sounds great. 2x4s will be 1-1/2" thick. For that thickness of material, you will want to use 2-1/2" Kreg Screws. Also be sure to set your Kreg Jig for material that is 1-1/2" thick. Below I have attached a few charts for your reference. Jig settings for 2 ¾ x 1 ½ boards with 30 degree miters?
