From Woodsmith Magazine/Plans Now. It's my first project ever. This is from the actual article. I assure you I made two of these, one for myself and one for my brother-in-law. I am currently separated from mine, living in another town, but I visit mine on occasion.

Brian,

Nice job.

That is a nice looking workbench.

Sorry again, I didn't answer cost - maybe around $30?  I went on the "cheap" because I had to waste part of it.  I don't know about you, but I think you'll agree that a project where you have to buy materials, just to deliberately waste part of it, you'd like to minimize waste.  So since this is used for a work surface, and not furniture, etc, I leaned on the inexpensive side.

Now I remember - I also had my miter saw back then as well.  But definitely no table saw at the time.

Thanks.  It was my very first project, and making two at the same time, I made something that utilized the few tools I had at the time, which was a circular saw and that's about it, if my memory doesn't fail (I made them around 2003).  As for the top, the plan calls for a 1 3/4” x 30” x 80” solid-core door (or laminate 2 sheets of 3/4” plywood together to get a 1 1/2”-thick top).  I got an inexpensive solid core door and trimmed a few inches off of it.  I remember using the circular saw; I think the door was 36" x 80".

Sweet design, what did you use for the top and what was the estimated cost?

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
