We have this in our kitchen and thought it would be a good idea for the garage.

Good to know, it's amazing how much more storage space it gives you. Thanks again for the help.

Evan,

I've added lots of sliding trays to drawers.

Use maple or baltic birch for the strips---planed or sanded "smooth".

Apply a lube to the strips, and to the exterior edge of the tray, to reduce friction.

Paraffin wax, is inexpensive and available at grocery stores---

it will suffice nicely to reduce friction on sliding motion wood objects.

That would be a heck of a lot cheaper, eliminating the drawer glides.

A slide-tray can be added to any drawer.

Simply affixing a wood strip along the sides,

for the upper tray to rest on and slide.

The slide tray can readily lifted out to access the underside.

A slide tray can be installed into a file drawer, for tool storage, and the like.

I think I will have to incorporate it into future projects for those small items

The slide-back tray is a useful feature.
