The bright red frame will get a picture of my two grandson's, one who is 4yr's old and the newest one born Jan 31st. We will be giving it to their Mom from them on Mother's Day.

Jerry,

Thanks for the info. I will keep this in mind. I don't have a jig or a router yet, but I am trying to learn about things that I like before I order them. I have made picture frames before, but it was with biscuits and a pain in the rear to keep level etc. I am hoping this method will be a bit quicker. Thanks for the info and great job on the frames.

Jayson,

I used a 3/8" keyhole router bit.  Once you have found the center of your frame, mark the frame where you want to start and stop the slot.  Then with your frame against your fence, slowly lower the frame onto the router bit at your start position and move the frame down to your stop mark, then slowly lift the frame off the bit.  Once you do it one, it's very easy.  I do this type of keyhole slots on quilt hangers so that the center of the slots are at 16" centers.  Makes it much easier to hang heavy quilts knowing I'm hitting the studs in the wall.  I will then use a flat head screw to mount the pictures/quilts.  I also like to slot the top and sides of the frames. If you ever want to change pictures from a horizontal to vertical orientation you'll already have the slots cut for hanging the frame either way.  Be sure to test your depth on scrap the same thickness as your frames.

How did you make the slot in the frame for hanging them?

Router?

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
