The Chief’s Shop Party Bench could serve as seating and/or a place for guests to place drinks and plates. It features similar construction techniques as used in my Rustic Series of projects - rustic bench, rustic stool, rustic side table. You’ll need a miter saw, drill/driver, and Kreg pocket hole jig to build it.
Plan available at http://chiefsshop.wordpress.com/2012/04/05/plan-of-the-week-party-bench/
