So, shot a nail through my thumb...all the way through. My first, I fell like I was initiated into the woodworkers club, officially!

BTW, just started staining the trunk, I'm really excited how it's turning out.  Can't wait to show everyone!

Whew, sounds like I am not alone!  It's been a week or so and still pretty bruised.  I was nailing 2 1/2 nails into trim and a 3/4 sheet of ply and a Kreg corner.  The key is the Kreg corner.  I forgot about the screw and the nail hit it, then shot out of the side, right into and through my thumb.  Beginners mistake, but I will never, ever do it again.  Live and learn!

Hope it's also your last bout with self-impalement, too, Justin. Nail guns are right up there with table saws in not forgiving complacency. I've had three such incidents in 35 years. As a teenager, I managed to nail my shoe to the floor (while my foot was still in it). Fortunately, the nail went between my toes. The second time, I failed to take my finger off of the trigger when I laid the roofing gun in my lap. Got a nail in the knee for that lapse. The last time, I was framing a wall and the plate blew out. The now free nail scored a hit in my too-close hand. Take it from the poster child for nail gun safety...take the extra couple of seconds to think things through before pulling the trigger. It can save you some extra ventilation and embarrassment. :)

Perhaps that's were the term ''thumb and finger nail'' originated.

Been there done it ,shot a nail 2" long through a 1x1/2" board. The nail stuck in my thumb about 1/2" that was not too bad,but 3 days later my thumb was really throbbing. The wife took a look and gave it a squeeze all this horrible stuff came out with a splinter nice.

Hummm, Did the same myself so I can sympathise to a certain extent.

Still not sure how it happened as the stapler has a depress safety and I certainly didn't have my finger under the tool.

a full recovery will occur soon.

Regards

Robert
