Tom, The plans for the carcase for this were from the book "Box-Making Basics  Design, Technique, Projects" by David M. Freedman.  I did change the lid from the sunburst in the original design to the crooked spine, which is just an angle cut with 3/8" x 3/8" box joint along the angle cut in the maple and walnut.  The panel was made oversize, then cut to final dimension.  I also used a catch rather than the thumb relief in the original plan.
