Well....there weren't exactly any plans. I guess I could take some measurements off of it and give them to you if you're interested. I think I've only built 2 things in about 10 years using a set of plans.
I kind of just rough sketch something out, try and scrounge up some material from work and just make it work.

That's freakin' awesome, Kevin! I want to some day make one like that, but fit it for a queen-sized bedframe. Any chance you could post the plans on your headboard?

There's also a little brass grommet there on the right side. That's where the cord for my son's clock radio runs down under and behind the headboard. I also installed a little fluorescent lite fixture above the shelf so he can read comic books, etc. at night.

Excellent work. The finished result is beautiful, and very functional with the built-in shelf.
