Really like this one, Ken.  Love how you accented the features of that piece of wood.  The BLO really made the grain and detail pop too.  Nice work.  Now everyone will know there's a WW who lives there.

Thanks Michael.

Carving the recessed numbers/letters gives the product more of a ''hand-crafted'' appearance.

I also do signs, with routed characters, using templates.

The numbers and accents are carved, (recessed), into the board material---

followed by darkening with an electric''soldering'' iron, and ''blow-torch'',

then followed by finishing.

The recessed characters can be routed---

route the material to rough-cut the numbers, then followed by carving/chiseling out the rest of the material to the marked out-line.,

OR, make a template and route it all.

(Routing will leave rounded corners.  If a a sharp corner is desired, it can be chiseled out).

I prefer to make free-hand cut-outs and carvings.

Nice sign! I need to make one for my place!

There are a couple of ways to do it Michael. His does look like it was burned in. I saw another method where you rout out your numbers, letters, etc.

Then spray paint the whole face of the sign, making sure to angle the can to get into the recesses of the letters.

Once the paint dries, run the sign through your planer, taking off just enough material, like 1/32 or so, so that you get a fresh wood surface with paint only in the routed out letters/numbers.

Easy peasy!
