Here it is all finished. It was built as 6 cabinets, then scribed and installed in place.

Ps.. I have only one electrical plug that will be covered up.. Going to move or leave in is the question... Might be a plug to supply power to cabinet lighting.... Need to draw out plans and play with the idea some more... Again except for the light plugs the wall is clear and free .. Just had new windows installed so I won't have the hassle of redoing again any wood they would beat up.. Can't wait to be off and going on this project.. That first cut is always the hardest...

Allright Jeff...
One year ago I stumbled onto your picture of the window built in cabinet... As I said before,, it's almost the identical build in that I was designing.. Had a few home upgrade projects in the way,, and the Wife told me I couldnt start another project till all the others were done...   So with my kitchen remodel ,, hall coat mirror,  the foyer curio cabinets and the stained glass in the front door side lights finished ...  I hope to be working on my version of a window build in starting this Feb... Have almost the identical window and wall you made your built in on... I plan on doors on the front of the under window seat... Will use MDF for the sides and the only wood will be the face frames and the molding pieces... Going to remove my window sill and just do a flat sort of picture frame insert around the window... I agree the dark wood on the cabinet seat and tops make the unit POP... And the MDF will be a great paint surface....

Any tips to avoid the pitfalls of making this built in? I'm guessing the cost will be around 500$.. Mdf for the painted areas and Popular wood for the face frames and doors...

Off to do the drawings and the fun begins..

Hey Gary I might still have measurements and some drawings i will do some digging for you. Because the window was not centered in the wall each side unit is a different width. It was important to me to keep the bench perfect under the window some my dimension might not work for your situation. Not sure what your dimensions or any things you have to work around but i would be more than happy to help you with plans. Shoot me over a picture of the area that you are thinking of putting it and i can help you possibly with dimensions and give you any advice to make your project a smooth one. This is a great project with great impact. Best of luck!

I hope you won't mind me showing this to my Wife today.... She's been after me to design and build just what you have for our guest room window.... It's been in my mind for some time now .... But to see the exact unit built is quite a surprize..... I hope I can do it as well as you just did.... Thanks for sharing..... Are there plans for this ,,, or did you just draw up your own?
