This is my first "made from scratch" building project and the first time I used the Pocket Hole Jig. I designed and made this custom cabinet for my daughter's apartment. Space was limited and a standard depth unit would not fit. I used 3/4" maple ply and trimmed the top with moulding and edge banded the rest. The door and legs are from IKEA, chosen because they match the armoire unit already in the bedroom. The cabinet is finished in black stain with 4 coats of poly to match the existing furniture.

A variety of doors is readily available for separate purchase because they are optional on many of the IKEA offerings. The same is true of the legs which are sold throughout the store and in the Market Place in varying lengths and styles.

Helen, could you share with the members here if there are any secrets to buying Ikea furniture, piece by piece? Is it difficult to buy the individual components, or is it really easy?
