Twin size headboard with small compartments / door built into face.

This was a somewhat complicated project, typical of what I get myself into. The profiling of the word, SCOTT, was actually a simple process which I've picked up, maybe by accident, as I haven't seen it written about anywhere. You clean/ sand smooth the surface, then center and mark off the spaces for the letters. Then, figure out your font with a computer or modifying several computer fonts to suit your work space. Using a pencil and eraser, you can sketch out the letters repeatedly until you have the look and spacing you want. This might take a while and some practice and getting the spouse or some other "expert" to critique the look until you are satisfied with the pencil sketch. Then, sketch out with the side of the pencil lead the background areas you are going to route out. Use a pointed router blade set at a depth no more than 1/8" and route the external lines around your letters. Then go back and forth, swinging left to right, just meeting your letter outline. It is amazingly easy to highlight your letters. Applying stain will bring out the highlighted letters even more. Then the finishing is standard polyurethane. Little Scott appeared to like the headboard. You can see his reaction on my sister's Facebook site: Cheryl MacHauer . Total cost: about 40$ Time to build: about 40 hours. There are some details in those doors that require more explaining another time.
Well who's a lucky boy!
All you need to do is to add a couple of USB chargers inside the compartments and you have "cutting Edge" technology.
Just out of interest how did you do the profiling?

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
