Do I take from these pics that you have raised panel bits?  Are those really expensive comparitively speaking to a "normal" router bit and, maybe a silly question, do they require anything more than a plunge base router to use???

hi tomboy, yes i have several raised panel bits. they are like any bits, you get what you pay for. they are anywhere from 50 to 125. i would only use them on a router table. the bits are 2 1/2 to 3 inches in diameter. it would be real scary to not use a router table. you can make a simple one from a piece of plywood and make a fence to use. you can buy one pretty chaep also. let me know if you have any more questions, i will try to post a couple pics  of my router tables in the next few days.
